The Shircliff Gallery, First and Harrison Streets, Over the past year and a half, while serving as Eclipse Director in Southern Indiana, Sarah Wolfe experienced a realized that there was a disconnection between people and the natural world. Her enthusiasm for the awe of celestial events, such as the total solar eclipse, was met with indifference from some, prompting her to reflect on our society’s growing detachment from nature. This inspired Wolfe to create art that reconnects individuals to the environment. By using materials gathered from her surroundings—like catalpa pods and dried okra—each piece is a tactile invitation to rediscover childhood wonder and the simple beauty of nature. Sarah stated that she strives to make these experiences accessible, especially for communities historically excluded from safe outdoor spaces. Through her work, she hopes to evoke a sense of awe and awareness of our environment, reminding viewers of their connection to the earth and encouraging a collective appreciation for its transformative power.
