SUMMARY:November First Friday Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:First Friday Art Walk\, November 1st\, 2024 \n\n\n\nJoin friends at Art Space Vincennes\, Open Gallery\, Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery and Shircliff Gallery for the First Friday Art Walk\, October 4\, 5 – 8 pm. Enjoy art and refreshments at the downtown galleries and catch the Shircliff Gallery before it closes at 6. \n\n\n\nArt Space Vincennes LLC\, 521 Main\, will open John Puffer: Photographs for Lulu\, Photographs for My Daughter.  John began taking photographs at the age of 12\, borrowing his mother’s Christmas present\, a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera.  He is now retired from Vincennes University after teaching there and at other colleges for over 40 years. \n\n\n\nAt his daughter’s request\, he has assembled a group of photographs that chronicle his career as a photographer.  He shares this collection of works in this exhibition. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours Tue – Sat Noon – 5 pm \n\n\n\n812-887-6145 \n\n\n\nNorthwest Territory Art Guild\, 316 Main\, will feature a collection of both past and recent works by local artist Amy Lane. Amy is an art teacher at North Knox. \n\n\n\nSeasonal works by Guild members in a variety of styles and media will be on display and for sale in the back galleries\, along with hand-made ceramics and jewelry.Regular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 11 am – 2 pm. Additional hours by appointment; contact the gallery via Facebook. \n\n\n\nThe Open Gallery\, 329 Main\, will be welcoming two artists for the months of November and December in a second installation of their Spouse Series.   \n\n\n\nSculptor Barry Barnes\, who is working on all new pieces for this event\, is a former Professor of Art at VU and has shown his work around the country.  He has enjoyed exhibitions at ArtSpace Vincennes and the Shircliff gallery as well as being honored with an Outdoor Installation at the Art and Design Center on the VU campus.  He is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Franklin College. \n\n\n\nRandi Frye is chair of the Franklin College Art Department and works in Visual Communication Design\, Illustration\, New Media Art\, including Animation and Digital Art.  Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. \n\n\n\nThe goal of the Open Gallery Spouse Series is to explore the way two working artists influence\, encourage and enlighten each other’s artistic endeavors while inhabiting the same spaces.   \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 10 – 4:30 pm.   812- 881-6475. \n\n\n\nThe Shircliff Gallery\, First and Harrison Streets\, Over the past year and a half\, while serving as Eclipse Director in Southern Indiana\, Sarah Wolfe experienced a realized that there was a disconnection between people and the natural world. Her enthusiasm for the awe of celestial events\, such as the total solar eclipse\, was met with indifference from some\, prompting her to reflect on our society’s growing detachment from nature. This inspired Wolfe to create art that reconnects individuals to the environment. By using materials gathered from her surroundings—like catalpa pods and dried okra—each piece is a tactile invitation to rediscover childhood wonder and the simple beauty of nature. Sarah stated that she strives to make these experiences accessible\, especially for communities historically excluded from safe outdoor spaces. Through her work\, she hopes to evoke a sense of awe and awareness of our environment\, reminding viewers of their connection to the earth and encouraging a collective appreciation for its transformative power. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: weekdays 9 am – 6 pm; 812-888-4316
