The modern pizza as we know it today has its origins in the Campania region of Italy; where during the 1700s and early 1800s the poor, working-class known as the lazzaroni needed inexpensive food that could be eaten quickly. Flatbreads with toppings such as anchovies, cheese, garlic, oil, and tomatoes—an early form of pizza—met those needs.

Established in 1954, Bill Bobe’s Pizzeria has won the Sun Commercial’s Reader’s Choice Award for Best Pizza multiple times and is a staple restaurant for Knox County residents.
