Where to Get the Best Local Pizza in Knox County

The modern pizza as we know it today has its origins in the Campania region of Italy; where during the 1700s and early 1800s the poor, working-class known as the lazzaroni needed inexpensive food that could be eaten quickly. Flatbreads with toppings such as anchovies, cheese, garlic, oil, and tomatoes—an early form of pizza—met those needs.

Today, pizza is inarguably one of the world’s most popular foods. It’s loved by people young and old and eaten by thousands every day—with 350 slices of pizza being sold in the U.S. every second! It should come as no surprise then that there is a whole day dedicated to celebrating this beloved food.

Here are some of the best places in Knox County where you can get pizza:

Old Chicago Pizza and Taproom

Locally owned, Old Chicago has become a popular spot for Knox County residents not only for their great pizza but for the fun community atmosphere. Be sure to stop in on a Tuesday night for trivia, or during the summer for live music.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Doubble Deckeroni Pizza
  • The Classic Pizza
  • Craft Your Own Pizza with tavern thin crust, basil, fresh mozz, applewood chicken, and sliced tomato

REVIEWS:

“So heard about this place but entered with skepticism. Glad I was wrong.  This place has a great deep-dish pizza definitely in the genre of a Chicago style.  The appetizers were delicious,  the service was great.  The restraint well decorated and the food…  Their sauce was out of sight. So we will recommend and without a doubt revisit.” — Yelper Aaron P. from Dunbar, PA

“Vincennes is lucky to have such a cool new spot. The pizza is phenomenal. The DOUBLE DECKERONI is my favorite on the pizza menu. The sauce and cheese are spicier than most… The beer list probably has the best microbrewery selection in the area and is especially nice to pair with their pizzas… While it is a chain restaurant common in Kansas, they are expanding into Indiana. This one is owned and operated by the 4th or 5th generation Niehaus family who have many other businesses in the area and who are dedicated to the local community. They really went all out on the remodel of the old theater building to make it one of a few gems on Main Street and hopefully it is the beginning of a much-needed revitalization in the area.” — Yelper Doug B. from Newport Beach, CA

“This place! I honestly couldn’t believe just how delicious it was or what I was experiencing in VINCENNES, Indiana!!! If it wasn’t a couple hours away, I would be a “frequent flyer” at this establishment. So glad I have leftovers to devour today! If you are ANYWHERE near, you MUST visit my new friend, Procopio!  If you are a couple hours away, you MUST make the trip and treat yourself.” — Yelper Sara R. from Indianapolis, IN

“What a great find! We were greeted promptly and seated right away. The restaurant was decorated nicely and had a good feeling about it. Our server, Stacey, was very nice and attentive. We ordered a regular pizza and a Chicago style pizza and bruschetta. The bruschetta came with the most delicious bread. I could have eaten that alone! Our pizzas were delicious, however, ordering the Chicago style would have been sufficient. Will definitely visit again!” — Yelper Cleo G. from Phoenix, AZ

“I have had pizza from at least 5 different countries, Places like New York, Chicago, etc. This place and their deep dish pizza is easily one of the best pizza’s I have had the pleasure of eating. Seriously.. damn! It’s too bad I live all the way across the country. If I’m ever back in this area I will go out of my way to get this again.” — Yelper Lyle R. from Pocatello, ID
