Come see the Big Balloon Build at the Highland Woods Community Center! After a week of hard work from balloon artists around the world, their creations will be open to the public. This will be the only time the balloon build will be available for the public to see.
In lieu of an admission fee, the builders are requiring those who wish to attend to bring a bag full of canned goods. These donations will help the United Way’s canned food drive for local food pantries.

Art Space Vincennes LLC, 521 Main will open Lumiére Horizon, photographs by Erick Rowe. Rowe taught photography at Vincennes University from 2007 – 2009 before moving to the Chicago area. He now teaches photography courses at the College of Lake County in Grayslake IL. He earned his BA at Purdue University and MFA at Columbia College. Rowe’s subject of focus is architecture, i.e., buildings and their surrounding spaces. The exhibit as a whole is a study of how the abstract idea of utopia, interpreted so differently across the spectrum of human thought, is expressed in the architecture itself and through Rowe’s careful selection of vantage points and his sensitivity to the impact of momentary changes in light.

The Open Gallery 329 Main will present March for the Common Good, an exhibition of themed posters by Vincennes University Professor Pravin Sevak’s Art and Design students. In these students’ two years of study, Professor Sevak encourages the design of at least one project that addresses issues regarding social or common good. This exhibition offers a special opportunity for viewers to see a selection of some of the best examples of such works done over the past 14 years. Subjects include concerns relating to the environment, social problems, food, diet and other health-related topics. It is hoped that the young voices heard through these colorful posters will impact our perspectives for the common good of our community, both locally and more broadly.

The Shircliff Gallery First and Harrison Streets, will be exhibiting Libby Rowe – Like Panes of Glass, photo-based wall pieces. Rowe earned her BFA from the University of Northern Iowa and MFA from Syracuse University. She lives and works in San Antonio, Texas. Rowe’s work addresses the disjunction between the idealization and the reality of the American Dream of family life. Images from family albums are printed onto stencil-created shaped grounds based on familiar domestic items such as a lawn chair, a laundry basket, a sock monkey. As the stenciled shapes are cut out, parts of the photo image disappear. As Rowe states, “neither the memory nor the present can possibly conform to an ideal without fracturing”.
Regular gallery hours: weekdays 9 am – 5 pm. The gallery will extend hours on March 4 to 7 pm. 812-888-4316.
The Open Gallery welcomes Professor Pravin Sevak, Art and Design department of Vincennes University, to exhibit his former students’ classroom projects titled – March for Common Good.
Professor Sevak will soon be retiring and The Open Gallery is honored to do a retrospective of his many successes with his Art and Design students over the last fourteen years. During the two years of their study, Sevak has always encouraged his students to design at least one project that addresses design for social good/common good.
These designs not only reflect the talent, creativity, and passion within the student body, but aim to challenge perceptions of their chosen issues. Hopefully, the voices of these graphic design students are heard and will impact your perspective for the common good of our community, both locally and globally. The exhibition is family-friendly and will provide plenty of discussion about important issues that the artwork is representing.
A First Friday reception will be held on Friday, March 4 from 5-8 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to mask as they feel comfortable doing so. The exhibition will run through the month of March. Free and open to the public.

His work is unique, fun, and provocative. Peacock explores ideas about communication, language, and social interaction in atmospherically fired porcelain with underglaze designs. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. The First Friday Players will again provide rollicking good Irish music for visitors to enjoy.
