SUMMARY:November First Friday Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join your friends at the three downtown galleries\, and the Shircliff Gallery on the Vincennes University campus for the First Friday Art Walk\, November 5 from 5 – 8 pm.  The Art Walk will be part of the Downtown Christmas Open House Stroll sponsored by the Downtown Vincennes Association\, being held November 4 – 6.  \n\n\n\nArt Space Vincennes LLC\, LLC 521 Main will continue Ellipsis…Ellipses: Painting by Tom Dimond. This South Carolina artist is showing mixed media works conceptually based on the ellipsis\, punctuation of three dots that stand for an omission in writing that occurs without substantially changing content.  The nonverbal action of the paint and visual structures\, reverberate with energy and conflict\, reflecting past and present-day turbulence. \n\n\n\nGallery hours are extended for November to provide more opportunity for viewers to see the work singly or in small groups throughout the month.  Regular hours will be Tue – Thu noon – 5\, Fri noon – 7 and Sat noon – 5.  Mask required for entry. \n\n\n\nNorthwest Territory Art Guild\, 316 Main will be presenting a unique exhibition of works that are part of the Guild’s collection and are for sale.  These will include pieces by past members\, such as Jules Bouillet.  Works in a variety of media by Guild members will also be on display and for sale. The gallery will be decorated for the holidays. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 11 am – 2 pm.  Additional hours by appointment. \n\n\n\nThe Open Gallery 329 Main will continue the exhibition of gallery co-owner Mike Mullen’s Squeaky Toy Variations series and will add ceramic works by Abby Peacock in an exhibition titled A Room Full of Whimsy. Mullen notes that his series\, like traditional still life painting and photography\, is “rife with symbolism” conveyed through artful arrangement of his vast collection of old but still colorful plastic squeaky toys.  As always\, his work is unique and fun but also provocative.  Peacock explores ideas about communication\, language and social interaction in her atmospherically fired porcelain with underglaze designs. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Southern Illinois University\, Edwardsville.  \n\n\n\nThe First Friday Players will again provide rollicking good Irish music for visitors to enjoy.  The exhibition is family-friendly; however\, guests will be requested to mask up. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue\, Thu 12 – 5 pm\, Sat 11 am – 4 pm and by chance \n\n\n\nThe Shircliff Gallery First and Harrison Streets\, will present Naturally Synthetic\, works by Elissa Cox Wenthe and Laura Gleissner.  Cox Wenthe will show ceramic sculptures based on real and imagined landscapes with the intention of personifying forms that exude energy\, vitality\, rawness\, beauty\, or sublime decadence. She explores the gap between the ordinary and extraordinary. She holds an MFA from Ohio University\, Athens\, and currently lives and works in Fayetteville\, Iowa.  Laura Gleissner will show oil paintings based on design elements at play in architectural structures. She investigates perception and visual distortion as her works evolve into ambiguous abstractions referencing specific locations. Gleissner holds an MFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University and is currently Assistant Professor of Art at Upper Iowa University\, Fayette. \n\n\n\nAn opening reception for the exhibition will be held Friday\, November 5 at 4:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: weekdays  9 am – 5 pm. ArtSpace Vincennes and the Open Gallery will not be offering refreshments.  Viewers are reminded that all the galleries have open hours during the week\, and the safety of seeing the work in small groups\, rather than in a crowd\, is a viable option.
