April 13, 2023 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department will present “Drum Enchanted Evening”, featuring the VU Percussion Ensemble, on Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 pm in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center Theatre. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend. The Theatre is located on the Vincennes Campus at 20 Red Skelton Boulevard, Vincennes, Indiana.
The VU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Susie Jackson, consists of percussionists playing a variety of traditional and innovative percussion instruments. The group will be performing various musical styles including jazz/fusion, classical, traditional, and the more contemporary “novelty tunes” performed in the style of “STOMP”, which involve the use of unique or unusual objects as percussion instruments combined with visual performance. Music selections will include Billy Joel’s “Root Beer Rag”, arranged by David Steinquest; “Afterburn” by Nathan Daughtrey; “Three Play” by Karen Ervin; “Memphis Stomp” by Dave Grusin, arranged by David Steinquest; “The Golden Age of the Xylophone” arranged by Randy Eyles and Floyd Werle; and “Recycled” by Julie Davila. Solo mallet pieces will also be performed by VU music majors Elliott Buehl and Aiden Stewart, and special high school guest percussionist Tori Thompson from South Knox High School.
