Great Places to Picnic

Fall is coming, and we are ready for the cooler temps! Now is a perfect time to get out and enjoy nature with a picnic.  We’ve compiled a list of picnic spots in Knox County to get you started.

Gregg Park

Gregg Park is set on 40 acres and offers a walking trail, playground equipment and picnic tables, two shelter houses, as well as two tennis courts with lights, a sand volleyball court, a fenced-in area for horse shoes with eight clay horse shoe pits.

Ouabache Trails Park

Ouabache Trails Park is two miles north of Vincennes off of Ft. Knox Road.  The 254-acre park on the Wabash River features four miles of marked trails, picnic areas & playgrounds in a beautiful wooded setting.

Fox Ridge Nature Park

Fox Ridge Nature Park is a 95-acre public use nature park. The focus of the park is to allow the public a space for recreation, which means walking and hiking, bicycling, fishing and exploring the natural world that inhabits the park.  There are picnic tables and a shelter house on site for all your afternoon picnic needs.

River Walk, Downtown Vincennes

The River Walk offers a scenic view of the Wabash River. Spanning Main Street to Hart Street, this is the perfect place to observe nature, while also taking a break for that afternoon snack.

George Rogers Clark National Historical Park

Nothing quite says Knox County like the George Rogers Clark Memorial. Take your lunch break at the park and enjoy the historic site. While you’re there, take a tour of the largest federal monument outside of Washington DC.  The park has tables near the parking lot.

Kimmell Park

Kimmell Park offers panoramic views of the Wabash River and an overlook with scenic stair-step seating leading to the water’s edge.  Park benches and picnic tables provide a perfect setting for a picnic on the river.  They’ve also recently added a new shelter house perfect for an afternoon picnic. Walking trails welcome students and the community to take in views of the river.
