Halter’s Market

Established in 1837, Halter’s Market is a locally-owned retail garden center located on north 6th Street in Vincennes. They offer a large selection of flowering plants and hanging baskets all raised in the Halter family’s 19 greenhouses on 225 acres, as well as a wide variety of vegetable plants including 30 varieties of tomatoes to choose from!

Open from April to October, when in season, they also carry homegrown produce, hand-picked fresh daily, for the highest quality. They offer juicy watermelon, fresh corn on the cob, red vine ripe tomatoes and more June through September, during the growing seasons.

Halters have a state-of-the-art Nexus glass greenhouse that utilizes natural ventilation, versus using fans, for cooling. The roof opens 40% for warm air to escape while cool air is brought in by vents in the sidewall, all automated for a more enjoyable shopping experience. When guests step inside the greenhouse, the temperature is never more than two or three degrees warmer than the outside air, and can sometimes feel cooler with their shade screen, creating a peaceful, lush experience.
