A Music Gala Concert

The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department – Music will present “A Gala Concert” on Wednesday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center Theatre, 20 Red Skelton Boulevard, Vincennes, Indiana.  The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.  Doors will open at 7 p.m.

The evening will showcase a variety of Vincennes University student music performing groups, including the VU Brass Ensemble and the VU Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Wade Baker; the VU Concert Band and the VU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Susie Jackson; the VU Concert Choir and the VU Connection, under the direction of Mark Snyder; and the VU Woodwind Ensemble, under the direction of H. Joyce Kim-Rohrer.  The concert will feature a wide variety of choral and instrumental music ranging from traditional literature to jazz/rock tunes and pop selections.

The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department will present “Drum Enchanted Evening”, featuring the VU Percussion Ensemble, on Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 pm in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center Theatre.  Doors will open at 7:00 pm.  The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.  The Theatre is located on the Vincennes Campus at 20 Red Skelton Boulevard, Vincennes, Indiana. 

The VU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Susie Jackson, consists of percussionists playing a variety of traditional and innovative percussion instruments.  The group will be performing various musical styles including jazz/fusion, classical, traditional, and the more contemporary “novelty tunes” performed in the style of “STOMP”, which involve the use of unique or unusual objects as percussion instruments combined with visual performance.  Music selections will include Billy Joel’s “Root Beer Rag”, arranged by David Steinquest; “Afterburn” by Nathan Daughtrey; “Three Play” by Karen Ervin; “Memphis Stomp” by Dave Grusin, arranged by David Steinquest; “The Golden Age of the Xylophone” arranged by Randy Eyles and Floyd Werle; and “Recycled” by Julie Davila.  Solo mallet pieces will also be performed by VU music majors Elliott Buehl and Aiden Stewart, and special high school guest percussionist Tori Thompson from South Knox High School.

Based on the classic children’s story “The Rainbow Fish Musical” is a delightful undersea adventure of friendship and the joy of sharing. 

“The Rainbow Fish Musical” will be presented by the Vincennes University Theatre Program at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are available for performances on:

Friday, March 31st at 7:00 PM EST,

Saturday, April 1st at 2:00 PM EST, and

Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM EST

The students performing include Ethan Montgomery as the Rainbow Fish, Peter Hesselgrave as Octopus, Kaleb Benson as Starfish, Samantha Cook as Little Fish, MK Wasson as Hermit Crab and Clownfish, Allyson Withycombe as Ms. Minnow and Pufferfish, Taryn Ginnan as Sardine, and Nate Meeks as Turtle.

The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department presents a “Guitar Fest.”  The concert will take place on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. (EST), in Vincennes University’s Red Skelton Performing Arts Center Theatre.  Admission is Free and the public is invited to attend.  

This year’s concert features VU Music’s Blues Ensemble performing “The Music of Chicago” (The Chicago Transit Authority).  Special guests, VU Music faculty Susie Jackson, Drums; Dr. Claudia Bossard, Piano; and Mark Snyder, Vocals.  Also performing, local group “Wood and Wire.”

The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department will present a Faculty Recital featuring VU Music Professor H. Joyce Kim-Rohrer, clarinet, on Tuesday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.  Professor Kim-Rohrer will be accompanied by VU Music Professor Dr. Claudia Bossard, piano, and guest artist and former VU music adjunct faculty member Betsy Graves, flute. The recital will feature music by French composers:  Charles Lefebvre, Francis Poulenc, and Camille Saint-Saens.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.
