Christmas spirit is filling the air! Kick off the holiday season at the downtown Christmas Stroll and Parade of Lights. Friday, November 22nd, enjoy the “Parade of Lights” at 6:30pm. Downtown merchants will have extended hours welcoming holiday shoppers with unique gifts and serving refreshments. On Saturday, Breakfast with Santa will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Parish Center from 8:00am to 11:00am ($5 at the door). Enjoy Carriage rides with Santa on Main Street on Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Northside Park will be sparkling with lights for the Holiday Season at the Community Christmas Light Display in Bicknell. The public is invited to enjoy the display from Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day.
Starting November 29, you can bring the family to Ouabache Trails Park to see their Annual Christmas Lights Display! The light displays begin the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs through December 26. Nightly, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, families can drive through the park to delight in their favorites and look for new displays added. Donations are sincerely appreciated with each and every penny given going right back into the light display, but please, if you are not able to donate, don’t let that stop you from coming out! Everyone is welcome!
The Vincennes/Knox County Preservation Foundation will help kick off the month of December with a Holiday Historical Home Self-Guided Tour in the heart of Vincennes! From 11:00am-4:00pm on Sunday, December 1, five homes of historical interest will be open to the public. Tickets are $20/person and will be sold the day-of at the tour starting point, the Klein Realty building, 505 North 6th Street.
The Vincennes University Music Department will present a Christmas Gala on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30pm. This event is free and open to the public, no tickets required.
“Christmas at Grouseland”, an open-house celebration will be held on Friday, December 6 at William Henry Harrison’s Mansion. The special event will include candlelight tours of the mansion guided by re-enactors recalling stories of the time Harrison and his family lived in the residence. This event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated!
Paying tribute to the famous band “Chicago”, the amazing band “Brass Transit” will perform “A Rockin Christmas” at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm on Friday, December 6. The band will be taking songs from the holiday albums of “Chicago” along with playing some of their greatest hits. Old Town Players Community Theatre will present the musical comedy, “Assisted Living: The Home for the Holidays” over two weekends: December 6, 7 and 8, and December 13, 14 and 15. Performance times are 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday, and 3:00pm on Sunday.
Join in the festivities at the Gimbel Corner (2nd & Main Sts.) on Saturday, December 7th when the Community Christmas Tree arrives that morning. Santa will light the Christmas Tree light at 6:00pm.
The 19th Annual South Knox Elementary School Craft Show will be held from 9:00am – 3:00pm on Saturday, December 14. An amazing array of craft items from nearly 150 vendors will be on display for your holiday gift giving. There will be a $2.00/admission fee. Santa will be there for “selfies” from 10:00am -2:00pm.
The Vincennes State Historic Sites are hosting The Tavern Dinner, an evening in a recreated tavern from Indiana’s frontier era at the Jefferson Academy on December 14. This event will feature a regional menu and musical program that highlights storytelling centered on holiday traditions of the region. The Nutcracker Ballet will be shown in two performances on Saturday, December 21 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.
