“What’s Invading the Park?”, Second Sunday Nature Walk

February 9, 2020 @ 8:00 am

“What’s Invading the Park?”, is the theme of the “Second Sunday Nature Exploration” Series. The last week of February is National Invasive Species Awareness Day. We will start earlier in the month by taking a walk to learn about the plant species that occur in the park (some to a great extent), how to recognize them, why they are a problem, and what you can do about them. We will also learn about local efforts to control invasive plants. Plants do not recognize borders, so they can travel far in your own midst! We’ll also learn about some invasive animal species in the area. Of course, we will be aware of the good things, and look for what life may be coming along, even as early as February 9! This walk will be co-led by Will Drews, Natural Resources Specialist for the Knox County Soil and Water Conservation Service, and by local Naturalist Terri Talarek King. Walks are free and no registration is required. All ages are welcome, and families encouraged. Participants are advised this walk involves some steep slopes. For questions or more information, email leapingfrog55@yahoo.com or leave a voice message (no text) at 812-881-8987.
