First Friday Art Walk
March 7 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The Open Gallery is excited to announce the kick-off of the 2025 gallery season in downtown Vincennes with a show by local photographer and gallery owner, Michael Mullen. This exhibition of his latest work, titled “The Wild West: A Photo Series,” features still images of toy cowboys and Indians set against various backgrounds. Mullen writes about the pieces in this show: “I like that these charged scenes are played out in front of these postcard-worthy landscapes, reinforcing the notion that the Western myth is superficial and, ultimately, empty.”
“The Wild West” will run through the end of March with an opening reception for the artist on Friday, March 7, from 5 – 8 p.m. at The Open Gallery, 329 Main Street in Vincennes. Come downtown and help us kick off the 2025 First Friday events. Food, music and good company are always staples for our downtown ArtWalks!
Art Space Vincennes LLC, 521 Main will open Album Art Series, music-related images by Josh Sollman. Over the past 9 years, this Vincennes musician/visual artist has been creating artworks on paper, using both digital and traditional media, that embody his response to the album music of varied musicians. Each piece evolves as he listens to a particular album in his collection. In his words: Guided solely by the sound, I let the music shape my exploration of colors, forms and ideas. Some pieces are completed before the album ends, while at other times an album inspires multiple works in a single sitting. Once the album is over, so is my time for that particular piece.
Northwest Territory Art Guild, 316 Main will celebrate the opening of the gallery season and the advent of spring with a group show of work by current guild members. In both the front and back galleries, visitors will enjoy a wide variety of works in varied styles and media, including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, drawings, collage, prints, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, and weaving.
