The Open Gallery, 329 Main will show The Dark of the Sun: Astrophotography by Chuck Reinhart during the months of March and April.

Photos of the eclipse will be featured in “The Dark of the Sun,” a new show at the Open Gallery. Chuck Reinhart’s photos of the 2017 total eclipse taken from Princeton, Kentucky, will show how the sun’s appearance changes dramatically from initial contact to totality. These 2017 photos will give Vincennes residents a chance to anticipate what to expect during this year’s solar eclipse. Related photos of the moon and sun will also be featured.

Reinhart has had two showings of his photos at the Open Gallery, and his photos are often on display at the Northwest Territory Art Guild. In 2022 his photo of the Milky Way earned first place recognition in the photography category of the Guild’s juried show.  Chuck’s photos have been shown on WTWO, WEHT, and WVUT-PBS. His work has been featured on the astronomy website EarthSky. He has also given talks discussing his photos at events sponsored by Vincennes Tourism and the Vincennes Camera Club.

The Shircliff Gallery, First and Harrison Streets, will be showing In Blackest Shade, In Darkest Light, a traveling exhibition of seven Black American artists working in drawing, curated by Patrick Earl Hammie. Hammie states: The exhibition centers around drawing as a technology from which artists speculate, recover, and collect communal histories, manifesting stories of desired futures from the margins of imagination into the realities of the everyday… The artists in this exhibition revel in horror, Afro-futurism, magical realism, Ethno-gothic, fantasy, Black Quantum Futurism, utopias and dystopias, and superheroes. They draw from cultural aesthetics and philosophies of science and history to explore and improvise within set boundaries and beyond. Their work speculates toward un-fixing the physical, political, and social knowns and imagine otherwise how we will be and become.  Opening Reception and Artists’ Talk: Friday, February 16, 12pm
