Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy opens America 250 and Red’s Patriotism exhibit
On Friday, May 22, 2026 at 12 noon, the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy in Vincennes, Indiana will host a ribbon cutting to introduce the public to two new permanent exhibits in the museum and in the Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art. The Red Skelton Museum has added to the exhibit on Red’s time in the military. This expanded exhibit showcases his time at Camp Roberts, and his entertainment of the troops. Red’s “I Dood it” slogan made famous by his radio character, Junior, the mean widdle kid, became iconic during World War II, with fighter pilots painting it on the noses of their jets and even as a famous newspaper slogan “Doolittle Dood it!”. In the art gallery, new exhibit panels grace the walls to showcase not only Red’s talent as an artist, but also a composer, and author.
The also will open their temporary summer exhibit, “The Year of the Pledge”, featuring artifacts and more information about Red’s famous version of The Pledge of Allegiance. There also will be a hands-on children’s with information and activities about the American flag.
The public is invited to attend this event free of charge from 12 – 1 pm and cookies and lemonade will be served. Museum chairman, Mark Hill, curator, Mark Kratzner and several board members will be on hand to greet guests. For more information visit the website RedSkeltonMuseum.org or call 812-888-4184.
