See nearly twenty pieces of public 3D artwork on the streets of Indiana’s historic first city. This immersive art project brings in top-class sculpture from artists around the world, and with interpretive signs and an interactive website, exploring the Vincennes Sculpture Project isn’t just fun, but it’s educational, too.
Vincennes Sculpture Project is a collaborative effort between arts organizations, artists, community organizers, stakeholders, and citizen representatives, to enrich Vincennes through public artwork. The activity is performed by a committee, who convenes twice annually to direct the program, including calling for and selecting new artwork. Selected sculptures are displayed for sale publicly on a 3-year exhibition, and unsold artwork is returned to the artist to make way for new installations.
The program was originally devised by Andy Jendrzejewski and Amy DeLap of the Art Space Vincennes Gallery, and in coordination with the Northwest Territory Art Guild, The Open Gallery, and numerous sponsors and community supporters, held its first exhibition of 8 sculptures in 2020. Since then, the project has brought over thirty public sculptures from around the US to Vincennes, and its donations and sales have resulted in sixteen permanently installed pieces of artwork, generating tens of thousands of dollars of economic activity for artists, the project, and local vendors.
