SUMMARY:Second Sunday Nature Walk - Ouabache Trails Park
DESCRIPTION:Fungi are fascinating!! They appear in myriad forms\, shapes\, colors\, and textures. There are many that do not fit the classic idea of “mushroom”. Learn how fungi form and live. What is a mushroom\, and how does a mushroom become a mushroom? During the Fungi Foray at Ouabache Trails Park participants will be exploring to see how many different types they can find.  Meet local Master Naturalist Terri Talarek King in front of the park office.  From there\, participants will walk to the beginning of Trail 3\, which goes down slope\, then continue on Trail 4 to the bridge\, cross the bridge\, then along the opposite side of the big creek to Trail 5\, which has some steep slopes.  The walk will last approximately 1.5 hours and will occur rain or shine –  a rainy day\, or recent rain\, brings out fungi even more. There is no fee or registration required and all ages are welcome and families encouraged.  Magnifying lenses are recommended for this walk; there will be a limited number available.  For questions\, email leapingfrog55@yahoo.com or leave a voice message for a call-back at 812-881-8987. Also\, check the Facebook page The Nature of Knox County\, Indiana. \n** Note on COVID-19 restrictions: The walk leader takes the coronovirus very seriously. Interpretive methods will be used for facilitating social distancing while exploring and learning. All attendees are strongly advised to wear masks for the protection of themselves and others. The May and June Second Sunday walks were canceled due to complications related to the pandemic. Future walks are tentative\, and will operate on a “wait-and-see” basis. ** \n
