SUMMARY:FREE DAY: "Suffrage Centennial Block Party"
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment\, which gave most women the right to vote. The Suffrage Centennial Virtual Block Party aims to create a fun\, engaging\, collaborative\, and safe series of events to commemorate the decades-long fight for women to vote and celebrate our achievements. \n\n\n\nDuring the 69-year struggle for the right to vote\, Hoosier suffragists embraced technology to have their message heard. They adapted their strategies from writing pamphlets to holding press conferences\, traveling statewide in road rallies\, and taking advantage of newspaper coverage to convince Hoosiers that they deserved the right to vote. \n\n\n\nOne hundred years later\, in the face of a pandemic\, we are doing the same with our Suffrage Block Party. Using a combination of smaller in-person opportunities\, virtual gatherings\, and interactive socially distanced activities we are taking the culminations of our centennial commemoration virtual. Adapting this event will provide a safe environment for all guests\, allow us to expand our party over the week of August 29 to September 4\, and create the opportunity to engage Hoosiers across our state. \n\n\n\nParticipants should contact Angel Mounds (contact information below) to pre-register and for the FREE suffrage bag and toolkit. Deadline for all kit registrations is noon the day before pick up. Limit two free kits per household. Each toolkit will include everything you need to put together a great block party\, including:   \n\n\n\nA bag of EqualiTea\, perfect for enjoying at your porch party.  A lapel pin to add to your favorite backpack\, jacket\, or bulletin board.  A fan to keep cool during your porch party.A craft kit to create your own suffrage banner.A flat suffragist for you to decorate and take along on your adventures. A BINGO card Complete activities\, learn about your Hoosier heroines and ways to join in the fun. Resources on Hoosier suffragists that were bold\, brave\, and determined to get their right to the ballot box.Information on how to throw your own socially distanced porch party\, just like the suffragists used to do (minus the social distancing).\n\n\n\nThis event is being presented by the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission\, Indiana Historical Society\, Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art\, Indiana Humanities\, Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites\, and Indiana Statehouse Tour Office. \n\n\n\n$ Add Price \n\n\n\nangelmoundsshs@indianamuseum.org \n\n\n\nAngel Mounds State Historic Sites \n\n\n\n8215 Pollack Ave\, Evansville\, IN 47715 \n\n\n\n(812) 853-3956
