SUMMARY:First Friday Art Walk - End of Summer Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Join friends at Art Space Vincennes\, Open Gallery\, and Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery for the First Friday Art Walk\, Friday\, August 4\, 5 – 8 pm.  Also happening\, the Watermelon Festival 4 – 10 at Patrick Henry Square and local art on display at Frank’s\, The Moonlight Café\, and Old Thyme Diner. \n\n\n\nArt Space Vincennes LLC\, 521 Main will continue the time the boy lived\, figurative ceramic sculpture by Taehoon Kim.  Originally from Korea\, Kim came to the US to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago\, where he earned a second MFA degree in ceramics.  He now lives and works in Chicago.  His pieces have a playful demeanor\, and show connections with Korean anime\, primitive art and folk art. They however also carry a deeper emotional message\, reflecting the inner turmoil that can lie beneath a cheerful exterior.  Kim’s previous work as a painter led to the brilliant color that enlivens these figures. \n\n\n\nUnframed matted photographs by Carol Messer and Tom Bartholomew will also be present in the gallery print bins. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat Noon – 5 pm and by appointment: 812-887-6145  \n\n\n\nNorthwest Territory Art Guild\, 316 Main will open a new show of ceramics by Victoria Kramer and paintings by John DeCoursey. \n\n\n\nVisitors to the Art Guild Gallery will recall seeing in the past Victoria Kramer’s ceramic works featuring the earthy colors and surface textures of raku firing. She has been a featured artist and has continuously displayed works as a Guild member. In her ongoing efforts to explore various methods of pottery technique\, and working to improve her technical skills\, she attended a ceramics class at Vincennes University this year. This new exhibition is a sample of her accomplishments while attending this class. These stoneware pieces are functional and food safe. \n\n\n\nJohn DeCoursey\, long time president of the Guild\, enjoys making watercolor paintings of the flowers he grows in his garden. He began doing this work in the 1990’s. His techniques have included blending colors\, alcohol ink\, salt effects and painting with negative space.  The paintings are like portraits of the flowers he loves; he states; “It’s kind of like if I paint them they’ll be around forever.” \n\n\n\nSummer-themed 2 and 3-dimensional artworks by Guild members will also be shown in a variety of media\, techniques\, styles\, and subject matter. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 11 am – 2 pm. Additional hours by appointment; contact the gallery via Facebook. \n\n\n\nThe Open Gallery\, 329 Main will continue the exhibition of works by artist Stephen Black\, a Professor of Art and Design at Vincennes University.  New works will be added not seen in the July show.  Professor Black’s works include a variety of collage pieces that explore shape\, color and imaging using letter forms and words.  He will be on hand at the opening to talk with patrons and guests about his work. \n\n\n\nRosary craftsman Sam Williams will also be present.  His beautiful and inspiring work\, which will include new creations\, can be seen at the entrance to the gallery. \n\n\n\nVisitors will again enjoy rollicking good Irish music by The First Friday Players \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 10 – 4:30 pm. \n\n\n\n812- 881-6475.
