SUMMARY:First Friday Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join friends at Art Space Vincennes\, Open Gallery\, and Northwest Territory Art Guild Gallery for the First Friday Art Walk\, Friday\, June 2\, 5 – 8 pm. The Spring on Main Festival will offer live music\, children’s activities\, vintage cars\, and food vendors\, along with beer and wine tasting along with a cash bar.  Participating downtown businesses will be open.  Art galleries will not be providing refreshments; please support the festival food and drink vendors. \n\n\n\nArt Space Vincennes LLC\, 521 Main will continue Where We Are\, Photography by Tom Bartholomew and Carol Messer.  Both artists carefully choose subjects from familiar surroundings interpreted through unique perspectives.  Tom Bartholomew\, recently retired from a long and successful career focused on photographing people\, has begun to explore what people leave behind when they have moved on. The over-arching narrative of his work continues to be a kind of storytelling\, now moving from specific events to embracing both the constancy and fluidity of time and nature.  Carol Messer\, who also has a long history of engagement with the arts both personal and professional\, has recently been exploring the transformative power of evening light\, as this light reveals a unity of spiritual energy in the coming together of land\, sky\, and the enduring structures of farm buildings in the rural outposts of Knox County. \n\n\n\nThe duo Joe’s Last Stand Half Plugged\, Bob Kemp and Tony Akers will play clean electric guitar\, original music by Bob Kemp\, in front of the gallery from 6:30 – 7:30. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat Noon – 5 pm and by appointment: 812-887-6145  \n\n\n\nNorthwest Territory Art Guild\, 316 Main will open a new show featuring a husband and wife team\, Karen and Warren Devine\, who are both Guild members.  Karen is retired after teaching art in the three elementary schools in the North Knox School Corporation for 31 years. She attended Vincennes University\, Indiana State University\, and earned her MFA in Visual Arts at Indiana University.  She will show oil\, acrylic\, and watercolor paintings of landscapes\, seascapes\, and florals.  Much of her work is from her area and travels.  Warren will be showing black and white digital photographs of landscapes\, nature subjects\, and architectural scenes. He is a geophysicist and electrical engineer.  He has been doing photography for personal and professional use for forty years.  Both artists have exhibited work with the Arts Council of Southwest Indiana as well as the Art Guild. \n\n\n\nSummer-themed 2 and 3-dimensional artworks by Guild members will also be shown in a variety of media\, techniques\, styles\, and subject matter. \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue – Sat 11 am – 2 pm. Additional hours by appointment; contact the gallery via Facebook. \n\n\n\nThe Open Gallery\, 329 Main will continue visual artist Leah Gose’s exhibition of her photographic series titled\, “Transplantations”.  This series of collages uses personal connections to multiple landscapes in what Gose calls her “search for a home as it would be defined by my sense of place…These visual transplantations reflect feeling lost due to my own inability to ground myself as I move through various landscapes searching for home and stability”.  Gose is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Harvey School of Visual Arts at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls\, TX.  Her exhibition will continue through the end of June. \n\n\n\nVisitors will again enjoy rollicking good Irish music by The First Friday Players \n\n\n\nRegular gallery hours: Tue\, Thu 12 – 5 pm\, Sat 11 am – 4 pm\, and by chance. \n\n\n\n812- 881-6475.
